FAQ

For Skin

Do the foods one eats contribute to more pimples?
Although certain patients may find that a particular food or food group may cause an increase in pimples, there is no connection between specific foods and an increase in acne lesions.

Do I need to see a dermatologist or skin specialist for my acne?
Most teenagers will have problems with their acne. Every pediatrician and family practitioner is trained to take care of acne. There are several strengths of each medicine and several different medicines to try. If all of the regimens we try are inadequate, we may together decide that it is appropriate to seek the advice of a specialist.

Why don’t the medicines work faster?
Although most other conditions respond within a few days, the treatments for acne take longer. Your body naturally heals most pimples within four to six weeks. During that time, the acne treatments work to prevent new pimples from taking the place of the old ones. Consequently, we wait six weeks generally before we make changes in the treatment plan.

I have heard that acutane can be taken for three or four months and all the acne lesions will go away for good. Why can’t I just take it?
Acutane is a very effective medicine, but it is also a potentially harmful one. The most serious side effect is liver damage and acutane is a serious teratogen, that is, it can cause serious birth defects in unborn children. Every female patient must undergo a pregnancy test prior to beginning treatment.

Do I need to take my medicine on an empty stomach?
Tetracycline should be taken on an empty stomach. The newer doxycycline does not need to be taken on an empty stomach. Minocycline also does need to be taken on an empty stomach, but minocycline has several serious side effects: pseudotumor cerebri, medication induced lupus, and autoimmune hepatitis. Erythromycin on the other hand needs to be taken on a full stomach.

Should I stay out of the sun while I’m on medicine for my acne?
The tetracyclines (including doxycycline) will sensitize your skin to sun damage, so you have to be particularly careful. In general, however, a light suntan will improve your acne.

Why is skin important?
Skin is the body’s largest organ. It regulates body temperature, protects against injury, and prevents infection. The skin contains nerves that sense cold, heat, pain, pressure, and touch.

What are the layers of the skin?
The skin consists of a thin outer layer (epidermis), a thicker middle layer (dermis), and the deeper layer (subcutaneous tissue or hypodermis).

How can skin problems be diagnosed?
Doctors can diagnose many skin problems by discussing the symptoms and examining the skin. Sometimes, additional testing may be necessary. A variety of skin tests are available to help diagnose skin problems such as bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections. A skin biopsy can be performed to tell the difference between rashes, malignant (cancerous) cells, and benign (noncancerous) growths.

Am I damaging my skin when I pick?
Number of things can happen when you pick your skin. While it is possible that you will not cause any permanent damage, in some cases an infection can develop in the area that was picked. You can tell that your skin has become infected if it is red, warm and tender. (If this red, warm, and tender area does not heal quickly or begins to grow and spread from its initial location, you should seek medical treatment for the infection.)
Repeated skin picking also can cause the skin at the picking site to change color when it heals. It may take many months for the skin to return to its normal color and this will only happen if the spot is not picked. But it is also possible that the skin will remain permanently discolored.
You can get scars from repetitive skin picking. Scars can occur if you pick all the way through the top layer of the skin, called the epidermis, down into the next skin layer, called the dermis, or beyond. Picking this deep removes melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. Most scars are small, but extensive; deep skin picking can lead to visible scars or uneven skin texture that will not go away.

How can I tell what type of skin I have?
To determine your type, use a simple test with a clean tissue and wipe your face in the morning, when you have just woken up: If you skin belongs to a normal type, the tissue will not reveal any traces of oil. If your skin is dry, the paper will be clean, too, but your face skin will feel flaky, dry, and tight after you have wiped it. If you have oily skin, the paper will have spots of facial oil on it, If you skin is combination, like that of most women, the tissue will have traces of oil coming from your nose and forehead, but will be clean in the areas that touched your cheeks.

Should SPF be applied before make up base or after?
Sun protection should be applied before make up and at least 20 min before sun exposure

Permanent Hair Reduction

What is it?
This revolutionary laser hair removal procedure is virtually painless. It uses non invasive laser energy to gradually heat hair follicles until they can no longer produce new hair. The treatment is comfortable and does not generally have side effects, and will leave you with smoother, cleaner skin.

Is it safe?
The device that delivers pain free, hair free. The soprano XL diode laser system, has been cleared by the FDA for permanent hair reduction on any skin type, including tanned skin. It has been used to treat hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide, with beautiful results.

How long will it take to get results?
Generally after each treatment you will see a noticeable, permanent reduction in the number of hairs that regrow in the treatment area. Typically it will require 4-6 treatments or more to permanently reduce the number of hairs that regrow by 80%, six months after the last treatment.

How does pain free hair free work?
Using carefully controlled pulses of laser light the soprano XL diode laser system’s proprietary IN motion technology and gradually heats the hair in the follicles within the dermal layer of skin. The heat is limited to just the area of the follicle and eventually damages just the follicles that would otherwise reproduce new hair. Surrounding tissue remains healthy.
With pain free hair free, the laser hand piece is in constant motion, so much wider area can be treated more quickly and easily than with earlier lasers. In addition, a patented dual chill mechanism ensures the surface of your skin stays cool and comfortable throughout your treatment.

Whom does it work best on? Does it work on all hair colours?
It is the pigment in the hairs themselves that convert the laser energy into heat necessary for permanent hair reduction. So it follows that the less pigment there is, the less effective the pain free, hair free procedure.

Does it work on all skin types?
Yes, pain free, hair free works on all skin types, including tanned skin. To ensure the safety of darker skinned patients, laser energy may be reduced. While this is unlikely to change your results, it can require additional treatments to achieve those results.

Will it hurt?
The most remarkable difference between the pain free, hair free procedure and any other hair removal procedure (including other laser procedures) is the absence of pain. Soprano xl‘s IN Motion technology, along with the patented dual chill mechanism, ensures your comfort during the treatment.
In general, the procedure is like a hot stone massage.

How long will it take?
Each area takes just a few minutes to treat. While an upper lip takes a lot less time than a man’s back, any area can be treated completely in one short session.
Depending on the area being treated, you will return in 4-8 weeks for your next treatment.

What is the post treatment routine?
Use SPF 30 or higher sunscreen on the treated area between treatments and for 6 weeks afterward.
Avoid:
Washing the treated area with hot water for 24 hours.
Hot baths or saunas for 3 days.
Excessive exercise for three days after the treatment.

Why does it take several treatments?
Scattering of the light in your skin, along with variations in pigment in the follicle, often make for variations in the ability of laser to create the thermal injury necessary to permanently disable an individual follicle.
In most cases, successive treatments will eventually treat every follicle effectively, as long as there is pigment in the hair and no other identifiable factors that could affect the success of the treatments.
The time between treatments is needed to refill the follicles that are not completely damaged, so they can have a pigmented hair available for the next treatment.

Mesotherapy for Face & Hair

What can I expect during treatment?
The treatment begins with cleansing and exfoliating the skin (where applicable). Next, your skin will begin to be lavished with a serum and gel are hand-selected and applied.
Next the treatment begins with 10-25mins of specific program for face, eyes, neck or decollete. You may feel a tingle or a disco effect and muscle movement on the face as the hand pieces are moved around. It is also normal for a slight tingle in the wrist where the connector arm band. If on the rare occasion there is a red mark on the wrist, it will subside quickly.

What after treatment do I need?
Your skin will be busy trying to take all the goodness in after the treatment and may feel a little dry as it gets to work, so just like you’ve done a big work out at the gym, your skin also will be a bit hungry and thirsty. Make sure you drink plenty of water, keep optimum nutrition on the inside and we may recommend a different serum and/or moisturizer to use for the next 3-5 days to maximize the result of the treatment.

How many treatments do I need and when?
You can have a Mesowave Needle-free mesotherapy treatment as a revitalising treatment for that special occasion, however if you have specific concerns such as acne, vascular weakness or sensitivity, premature ageing etc you would benefit substantially by having between 4 and 12 treatments.
If you have a desire to work on firmness and lifting, it is best to have 4-6 treatments close together (2 x weekly) and then 1 x weekly for 4-6 more treatments.
So your skin is looking and feeling amazing- you can either enjoy a mesowave treatment as your traditional monthly or bi-monthly treatment, or you can schedule a top-up course in 4-6months time, depending on your individual needs.

What is mesotherapy? (For hair)
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical, cosmetic procedure in which multiple tiny injections of natural extracts, vitamins etc., are delivered into the middle layer (mesoderm) layer of the skin for therapeutic reasons.

Is the hair growth obtained after mesotherapy permanent?
Mesotherapy boosts hair growth and alongside it is also essential to correct the cause of the hair loss. This is because successful treatment of any case of hair loss depends on the cause.
Our doctor will examine you and if required, will also ask for certain blood tests to be done. Male pattern baldness, being a progressive condition, will need maintenance treatment along with and after mesotherapy. However, if you are a case of anemia with low serum ferritin level, the hair growth would be permanent once your ferritin levels come back to normal.

What types of hair loss can be treated using mesotherapy?
Male and female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium and alopecia areata can be treated using mesotherapy.

How soon can I see the results of mesotherapy?
Generally, results can be evident from 4th to 5th week onwards

How many sittings are required and how frequently?
We recommend 12 sittings of mesotherapy – 1 sitting per week – for optimum results. However you may continue to do mesotherapy beyond 10 sittings also to get more benefit.

How much time does it take per sitting of mesotherapy?
It typically takes about half an hour per session of mesotherapy.

Are there any side-effects of mesotherapy?
There are no side-effects of mesotherapy.

Are there any contra-indications of mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is contraindicated in pregnant women and nursing mothers, patients with epilepsy, brain tumors, acute inflammation, infectious diseases, uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension, unstable & severe heart disease, unstable & severe kidney disease and unstable & severe liver disease. Patients on pacemaker are strictly forbidden to undergo mesotherapy.
